Mulder, the creative mind behind Kinderfeets, to learn more about his inspiration for creating the brand and how sustainability is playing an important role in the company's every move.

Q: Oscar, thank you for taking the time to chat with us. To kick things off, could you share what inspired you to create Kinderfeets?

Oscar: Because I grew up in the Netherlands, I have a deep-rooted passion for biking. As a young parent, I was determined to pass on this love for adventure and active learning to my son, Sebastiaan. We were living in the USA and I was unable to find a balance bike for him like the ones I was familiar with growing up. So, I embarked on a project to build Sebastiaan his own balance bike. Little did I know, this one-time project would evolve into Kinderfeets, a thriving company that now inspires young minds worldwide and offers parents a sustainable alternative that is safe for their children and gentle on the earth.

Q: That's truly commendable. Can you tell us more about the philosophy behind Kinderfeets and how it translates into your products?

Oscar: Absolutely. At Kinderfeets, we believe in the power of play to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for the outdoors. Our toys are designed to encourage children to explore the world around them while fostering a deep connection to nature. We use natural materials like birch wood, bamboo, beechwood, untreated cotton fabric, and water-based paints and lacquers for all our products which not only have a smaller environmental footprint than plastic but also offer unique sensory experiences for children.

Q: Your balance bikes, in particular, have garnered a lot of attention. What sets them apart from traditional bikes and others available, and why do you think they're important for children's development?

Oscar: Balance bikes are a fantastic alternative to training wheels because they teach children balance and coordination from an early age. Our Tiny Tot is the smallest balance bike on the market – doubling as both a tricycle and a 2-wheeled balance bike, allowing kids as young as 12 months old to start exploring! They are also easy to convert from 3 wheels to 2 when your child is ready. Beyond the physical benefits, riding a balance bike also instills a sense of confidence and independence in children, which is invaluable as they navigate the world around them. Not to forget, because they're planet-friendly, they bring children a little closer to nature every time they ride!

Q: It's clear that sustainability is at the core of Kinderfeets' mission. How do you ensure that your products are environmentally friendly throughout their lifecycle?

Oscar: Sustainability is a journey, and we're constantly striving to improve our practices. From sourcing materials responsibly to minimizing waste in our production process, we're committed to reducing our environmental impact every step of the way. We are also proud to work with Trees for the Future to plant more trees on our planet.

Q: Lastly, what do you hope Kinderfeets will achieve in the years to come, and what message would you like to share with parents and children who are considering your products?

Oscar: Our vision for Kinderfeets is to continue inspiring a love for play, nature, and sustainability in children around the world. We hope to empower parents to make conscious choices for their families and the planet, starting with the toys they bring into their homes.
